The theme for 2017’s conference will be ‘Measuring up’: ways of capturing social value and more intangible outcomes

Increasingly visitor studies is being asked to understand and demonstrate the value and impact that our cultural and heritage institutions have on broader public agendas such as health and well-being, social justice, inclusion, place making and the environment. This can be a challenge. We are excited to open up discussion around these challenges, to hear about your experiences (what worked? what didn’t?) and to think positively about how to overcome them.

The VSG committee are excited to announce our annual 2 day conference will be on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 March 2017 at the Royal Geographical Society London.

Keep your eye out for our call for papers and workshops coming imminently!

July Masterclass: Walking in the shoes of your Visitors report

In July we ran a very successful masterclass at the lovely National Railway Museum in York. Led by consultant Lisa Baxter, the Masterclass received positive feedback for the opportunity to explore a topic in depth and discuss its application with a group of VSGmembers. Participants felt they went away with new tools and perspectives that they could apply to their work. The emphasis on practical learning was enjoyed by all participants with one stating the masterclass was “A fascinating ‘toolkit’ for understanding and transforming how visitors move through spaces. We will certainly be applying these lessons in our new museum.” David Rounce, Ravenglass Railway Museum
