Open call for Committee Helper and Committee Member

Passionate about visitor studies? Interested in helping to shape our community? We have two vacant positions on our committee. Join us as a Committee Member or Committee Helper . To find out more about what either role entails please get in touch ( ) and we’ll be happy to answer any questions.

“Committee Members are appointed for three years, have full voting rights and are allocated a portfolio of work to ensure their time is best spent and their own skills set developed. They are elected by the membership.

A Committee Helper is appointed for one year, does not have voting rights and is appointed to assist the committee to deliver the VSG programme of work. They are co-opted by the committee members.”


July Masterclass: Walking in the shoes of your Visitors

We are excited to be running this members-only masterclass  with Lisa Baxter, founder of The Experience Business. The day long course is intended for those who have experience in visitor research and in the creation and development of visitor experiences. It will help potential delegates to be in a managerial position capable of implementing change within their teams.

Time and Date: Thursday 7th July 2016, 10.00am – 4.30pm
Location: National Railway Museum, York


Masterclass bursary

We are very pleased to be able to offer one of our members a bursary to attend the above event. The bursary will cover costs of up to £200 which includes registration to the event and reasonable travel expenses. Details of how to apply will be shared soon.


Post-masterclass social in York

We will also be running a social event for all visitor studies enthusiasts directly after the Masterclass. Join us at the York Tap ( from 4.45pm onwards for some drinks and friendly chat.


Alison James professional development bursary winner

We received some very high quality applications for the Alison James Professional Development Bursary. After careful deliberation this year’s prize has been awarded to Pippa Gardner. Pippa is a PhD student in the University of Sheffield’s Department of Geography, and is currently writing her thesis, “Making Space for Curiosity and Innovation: Reshaping Sheffield Museums”. We look forward to hearing from Pippa at next year’s conference.
