Keynote Speakers: Embracing Change


The VSG Conference on the theme of ‘Visitor Studies: Embracing Change?‘ will open on 4 March 2015 with a keynote session from Piotr Bienkowski who is Project Director of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s programme ‘Our Museum: Communities and Museums as Active Partners’. He runs a cultural consultancy specialising in organisational change, community engagement and cultural planning.

Piotr has worked with individual museums and galleries, local authorities, strategic bodies and private and public foundations in the UK and Europe, and his work includes commissioning and managing public art programmes and running empty shop projects. Previously he was Head of Antiquities at National Museums Liverpool, Deputy (and Acting) Director of Manchester Museum, Professor of Archaeology and Museology at the University of Manchester, and Chair of the North West Federation of Museums and Galleries.

On day 2 of the Conference our Keynote speaker is Kerstin Mogull, Managing Director of Tate, who took up her role there in January 2015. Kerstin joined Tate from Clear Channel International and was previously a member of the senior team at the BBC. In her capacity as Chief Operating Officer at BBC Future Media and Technology She led planning for iPlayer, the BBC’s groundbreaking catch-up service and played a leadership role on some of the Corporation’s major capital projects. Kerstin rolled out a range of online initiatives and global partnerships to bring creative and editorial content to audiences using new digital technologies and viewing in new ways.
